RBPMW is pleased to announce the opening of RBPMW Fellows: Jarrod Beck, Andrea Cote & Fred Hayes. This is the last of three exhibitions presenting the work of RBPMW’s 2009 – 2010 Studio Immersion Project Fellows.

Studio Immersion Project (SIP) Fellowship is an intense workspace project designed to introduce artists from multiple disciplines to printmaking. SIP encourages and supports the technical and conceptual evolution of creative practice for both emerging and experienced artists. Viewed together, the work of Beck, Cote and Hayes is a visual embodiment of RBPMW’s SIP Fellowship.

Jarrod Beck pushes the limits of a copperplate – scratching, burnishing and biting into it using etching, aquatint and drypoint. Each of the three intaglio processes marks the plate in a specific way, yet combined in Beck’s unique method create mesmerizing webs of line and tone, capturing bold, inky shapes between fine veils of line.

Andrea Cote is exhibiting bright, colorful prints depicting mandala and heart forms. They look cheerful and innocuous from afar. Stepping closer, the viewer sees that each print is comprised of impressions the artist has taken from her own body, adding a visceral and intimate dimension to her work.

Fred Hayes focuses on capturing the human condition within the urban environment, attempting to highlight the face of the marginalized. He uses a loose gestural style to create monoprint portraits that hauntingly stare directly at the viewer, watching us as we watch them.
